allofmp3.com verdict: Not Guilty (Hunh?)

MOSCOW, Russia (Reuters) -- A Russian court found the former boss of music download Web site www.allofmp3.com not guilty of breaching copyright on Wednesday in a case considered a crucial test of Russia's commitment to fighting piracy.

The allofmp3.com Web site angered Western music companies by undercutting the price of downloads in deals they said breached copyright law.

Denis Kvasov, head of MediaServices which owned the site, was put on trial after entertainment companies EMI Group Plc, NBC Universal and Time Warner Inc. pressed for a prosecution.

"The prosecution did not succeed in presenting persuasive evidence of his involvement in infringing copyright law," said judge Yekaterina Sharapova.

The IFPI reiterated its view that the allofmp3.com was in breach of the law, and said it hoped the prosecutor would appeal the ruling and that the decision would be reversed.

"This ruling in no way affects the illegality of allofmp3.com and similar services that reproduce and make available music without the consent of the artists and record producers that created it," Jo Oliver, vice president for litiagation and regulatory affairs at the IFPI, said.

Two other cases against current directors of Media Services which also relate to allofmp3.com are pending.

EMI, Warner Music and Universal had been seeking 15 million rubles (£293,000) in damages from Media Services, according to the IFPI. All three labels declined to comment today.

The Foo Fighters Nail Down U.K. Arena Tour source

The Foo Fighters will spend two weeks touring in the United Kingdom in November, where they have grown exponentially in popularity in recent years. The tour begins Nov. 3 in Manchester and wraps with a Nov. 17-18 stand in London.

As previously reported, the Foos' new album, "Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace" is due Sept. 25 via RCA. First single "The Pretender" is already No. 1 on Billboard's Modern Rock chart.

And although dates have yet to be announced, a promotion is underway for presale tickets for a forthcoming North American tour via iTunes. Fans who pre-order the new album via the service will receive a code for early tickets via Ticketmaster, as well as downloads of "The Pretender" and the B-side "Seda."

Ticketmaster and Live Nation Unlikely To Renew Deal

What wonderful news over at hypebot this morning.

"... we now believe it is doubtful we will extend our agreement when it expires at the end of 2008. Live Nation has been a valued client for a very long time and we believe we've taken every reasonable step possible to facilitate a renewal, but they seem intent on a direction for their business that leaves us no viable way to work together."

I'm friggin thrilled that there will be an alternative to the Ticketmaster Monopoly. Livenation is already a big player, according to the article they account for over 15% of ticketmaster's business... That's a BIG client to lose...

So, Will Livenation come away from this and start direct ticketing? Will they partner with a smaller agency? Will they deliver tickets via mobile Nokia phones? The answer is still up in the air, but one thing is certain: Ticketmaster must be shaking in their shoes.

In Canada, there is usually not a password for FRONT OF THE LINE TICKETS. Just choose that box and you will be forced to pay with your American Express card. OR the password in certain circumstances is AMEX

In the US, the Amex GCE password is toll-the customer service on the back of a qualifying card. According to Ticketmaster's HELP section:

To purchase your American Express Gold Card Events tickets online, read the instructions below, then close this page and return to the "Look for Tickets" page:

1. Enter the quantity of tickets desired in the "American Express Gold Card Events" prompt.
2. In the "enter password" prompt, if you are a Domestic Card member, enter the 10-digit Customer Service phone number located on the back of your Card. If you are an International Card member, enter your promotional code.
3. Submit your request. (click "Look for Tickets" button)

What I have found recently is that is seems Platinum cards get access to better seats for some events then do the Gold Cards (Which makes perfect sense ;). This might be coincidence, and for other events they do pull from the same pool, but there they are.
