10 Things To Know Before Your First Concert

I'm going to my first concert. What are some things I should keep in mind?

1. Arrive Early

It's a good idea to arrive at the venue early so you can get familiar with the layout and find your seat or spot before the concert starts. You may also want to arrive early to explore the venue, grab a snack or drink, or meet other fans. Arriving early can also help you avoid the crowds and lines that can form as the concert start time approaches.

2. Dress Comfortably

Comfort is key when attending a concert, so make sure to wear clothes that allow you to move and dance freely, if you're in to that sort of thing. Avoid wearing tight or restrictive clothing, as well as anything that could cause discomfort, such as high heels or shoes that are too tight. You'll also want to dress appropriately for the venue and the weather, as many concerts take place outdoors or with open roofs.

3. Bring Earplugs

Concerts are loud, and prolonged exposure to loud noise will damage your hearing. You may have heard people describe their ears "ringing" the day (or more) after a concert. To protect your hearing, bring a pair of earplugs with you. You can purchase disposable earplugs at most drugstores or online, or invest in a pair of high-quality earplugs that are designed specifically for concerts. Some convert venues will have them for sale before the show.

4. Stay Hydrated

It's important to stay hydrated during a concert, especially if you're dancing and singing along to the music. Bring a water bottle with you or purchase one at the venue. Most venues will allow you to bring an empty reusable water bottle that can be filled at the venue. Others may require you to purchase water from their concession stands. It's good to know before-hand - this way you can bring your own water and spend your money on swag instead!

5. Respect Others' Space

Concerts can be crowded, and personal space can be hard to come by. Be mindful of those around you and try to respect their personal space. Avoid pushing or shoving, and be careful not to spill your drink on anyone. If you're in a standing section, try to leave some space between yourself and the people around you. Of course, if you're trying to get as close as possible to the front of the stage, you may have to give up your personal space. For some, it's well worth it!

6. Be Prepared for the Crowd

Speaking of, concerts can be crowded and chaotic, so it's important to be prepared for the crowd. Keep your belongings close to you and be aware of your surroundings. Keep your phone and valuables in your front pockets, and wear your backpack on your front. If you're in a standing section, be prepared to stand for a long period of time and potentially be jostled by the crowd.

7. Enjoy The Moment

Concerts can be an incredibly fun and memorable experience, so don't get too caught up in taking pictures or videos. Take the time to enjoy the moment and the music, and soak up the atmosphere around you. If you want to take pictures or videos, try to do so without obstructing anyone's view or being too disruptive.

8. Know the Artist's Music

Know the artist's music: Knowing the artist's music can enhance your experience and make it easier to sing along and enjoy the performance. Listen to the artist's music in the days leading up to the concert to get familiar with their style and lyrics. You may also want to research the artist's background and history to gain a deeper appreciation for their music.

9. Be Respectful of the Artist and Other Fans

Remember that everyone is there to enjoy the music and have a good time. Be respectful of the artist and their performance, and avoid disruptive or disrespectful behavior. This can include not yelling out requests or heckling the artist, and not being too rowdy or aggressive in the crowd. Try to be considerate of those around you and enjoy the concert in a positive and respectful manner.

10. Follow the Rules

Each venue may have its own set of rules and regulations, so make sure to familiarize yourself with them before going. This can include rules about what items you're allowed to bring, where you can and can't go, and how to behave during the concert. Not following the rules can get you ejected from the show, and no one wants that to happen.

UPDATE: The Platinum card is $699/year in Canada.

Platinum Card customer service number from the back of the card: 8005253355
Centurion Card customer service number from the back of the card: 8778770987

Amex Presales: Introduction
Amex sponsors TONS of Amex Sponsored events, concerts, sporting events such as the US Open, Golf tournaments and theater productions such as Wicked. , it could be a Green card or a Platinum card, but regardless, to buy AMEX GCE tickets during a presale, you need an American Express card.

Need an American Express Card? Get one here.

Step 2: You need to know what events are going on sale, and you have to plan ahead as to which performance you want to see!

American Express has created RSS news feeds of their Gold Card Events all across America. Now, Broadway is in Eastern, and San Francisco is Western, I'm a little fuzzy where Central starts and ends, so here are were, they all stopped updating around 2008, for no good reason at all.

Gold Card Events East: http://feeds.americanexpress.com/axp/gceeast
Gold Card Events West: http://feeds.americanexpress.com/axp/gcewest
Gold Card Events Central: http://feeds.americanexpress.com/axp/gcecentral

Step 3: The Passwords... According to Ticketmaster!

In Canada, there is usually not a password for FRONT OF THE LINE TICKETS. Just choose that box and you will be forced to pay with your American Express card. OR the password in certain circumstances is AMEX

In the US, the Amex GCE password is toll-the customer service on the back of a qualifying card. According to Ticketmaster's HELP section:

American Express® Gold Card Events

All eligible Card members have exclusive access to the most sought-after tickets for some of the hottest shows across the country, in some cases before they're available to the general public.

The following American Express Card members are eligible for this benefit:
Domestic and International;

  • Gold Card
  • Platinum Card®
  • Centurion® Card
  • International Dollar Cards
  • Corporate Platinum Card
  • Executive Business Card
  • Business Gold Card
  • Business Platinum Card
  • Business Centurion Card

Wow, what a list. Now fortunately, Ticketmaster gives you even MORE information that can help you get the Gold Card Events presale password:

To purchase your American Express Gold Card Events tickets online, read the instructions below, then close this page and return to the "Look for Tickets" page:

1. Enter the quantity of tickets desired in the "American Express Gold Card Events" prompt.
2. In the "enter password" prompt, if you are a Domestic Card member, enter the 10-digit Customer Service phone number located on the back of your Card. If you are an International Card member, enter your promotional code.
3. Submit your request. (click "Look for Tickets" button)

Sweet, it's simple, the Amex Presale Password is a phone number! And even better, a Customer Service Phone Number! (Those aren't too hard to find by CALLING customer service for your Green card and ASKING THEM what the numbers are :D

What I have found recently is that it seems Platinum cards get access to better seats for some events then do the Gold Cards (Which makes perfect sense ;). This might be coincidence, and for other events they do pull from the same pool, but there they are.

Did I mention you need to get am Amex before any of this will work? Get one here.

So there you have it, the easy step by step of how to find, use and obtain Presale Tickets for Amex GCE events, even if you don't have a Gold Card.

Amex Presale Password - In Summary

How to: Make TicketMaster.com faster by cleaning up your PC

Warning! This presale was published over a year ago and it may or may not work with current events. Please search for a more recent presale by clicking the performer or event name here:

how to get livenation and ticketmaster to load pages fasterMany people have asked me how to speed up ticketmaster.com so you can buy tickets faster on Ticketmaster.com and Livenation.com as well as many other box office systems such as Telecharge.

While having a fast Internet connection is certainly part of being able to buy tickets online quickly, your Internet connection is only one part of why you might be getting slower performance from websites such as Ticketmaster.com.

If you've noticed that other websites are loading slowly or taking a long time it's possible that your computer may need to be cleaned out a bit - this process is pretty easy these days thanks to some great tools, many of which are completely free to use.

In this guide we are going to get your PC running in tip-top shape so you can get your tickets faster, sometimes MUCH faster.

Step 1 - Update your Web browsers

If you are running an older web browser you might be taking too long to load pages because there is new technology available which could dramatically increase the speed of websites and reduce the load on your PC.

It used to be that newer browsers with all their fancy features would slow things down, but the newest version of Internet Explorer will actually make things quicker and show you which add-ons and toolbars are slowing down your web browsing experience.

Step 2 - Clean out the crud that builds up in windows

Over time any windows machine becomes slower due to registry entries, software which is installed and removed, temporary files, cookies, and all sorts of things that need to be optimized and just don't run as smoothly as when you first got your computer.

Cleaning all this gunk out of a machine used to be a daunting and technical process, however there are now some very excellent tools which anyone can use. In a few simple clicks all kinds of garbage will be gone from your PC things will run much faster.

The very first of these that you should try is called CCleaner. This is a free application. It works very quickly and very effectively, and I've never had a problem with it on my machines. It also has a nice feature where it will remember which cookies you use commonly for websites like your e-mail or Facebook and will leave those intact when it cleans things out.

I also highly recommend PC Optimizer Pro it has a trial you can use to fix 25 errors for free, plus a host of extra tools to manage which programs start at the same time windows does, quick access to windows system tools, a clean uninstaller, and more.

Here's a screenshot of PC Optimizer Pro in action:

PC Optimizer Pro - The Catch.

Now, it is worth pointing out that PC Optimizer will only be able to fix 25 errors for free, but in one test I did recently there were only 16 errors left after using CCleaner, so I didn't need to purchase a license to fix them all. If you have hundreds (or thousands) of errors, you may want to consider purchasing a license (about $40, they run promotions as well from time to time.)

I've emailed customer support and received a quick reply that there is a 60 day return policy on PC Optimizer Pro - so if you do buy a license and aren't happy you can get your money back pretty fast.

Download PC Optimizer Pro

Step 3 - Update Windows to improve performance and security

Keeping up to date with windows updates is a critical task - make sure you do this on a regular basis to keep your PC as secure as possible and to add any performance improving patches that Microsoft releases.

If you need detailed instructions on how to update windows, see this helpful page: Microsoft Windows Update Instructions (Microsoft.com)

Step 4 - Shutdown all non-essential programs to make your pc quicker

Start by shutting down every non-essential program on your computer, including things like instant messaging programs such as aim, Skype, MSN messenger, and ICQ. Not only do these programs use your PCs membery while they are running, but many of them also use your internet connection (even while you're not using their chat features) and can slow down your connection to Ticketmaster.

To make sure you have closed and completely exited from these programs, and to make sure that Firefox isn't still running after you exit from it you can bring up TASK MANAGER

Make sure that you have closed Firefox, Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, Safari, and Opera and that they are no longer running in the background by bringing up task manager. The easiest way to bring up task manager is by pressing CTRL + SHIFT + ESC - a window will appear similar to this one:

From here you can easily see how much memory FireFox, and other programs are using.. and even if you've closed all the windows and exited from them, some will stay around and keep all that memory locked up.

Important: If you terminate a program you might not have the opportunity to save your work, so try switching to it first and exiting normally.

Clicking on the name of the program you wish to terminate (firefox.exe) and then the End Process button will "kill" that program off. You can restart Firefox, but do NOT restore your previous session, as this will cause much of the memory usage to return.

FireFox was the example here, but Google Chrome, Opera and Safari can all slowly take up more and more resources as time goes on - see point 1 (above) on why you should upgrade to Internet Explorer 9 asap.

Now that you've got a clean and up to date system, it's time to get browsing on Ticketmaster.com to see the difference!

After following these instructions, how much of an improvement did you see?

What tools would you recommend other people try to clean up their machines?

How much faster is your computer now?

TICKET NEWS - Ticketmaster Plans to Require COVID Data Access For Events

Warning! This presale was published over a year ago and it may or may not work with current events. Please search for a more recent presale by clicking the performer or event name here: 11-13-20, 11-14-20, covid-19, livenation, Ticket news, Ticketmaster

A report in Billboard this week indicates that Ticketmaster is taking steps towards requiring access to consumer medical information as a part of its “fan safety” plans for live events to return at scale. The plan, according to Dave Brooks, involves data sharing between Ticketmaster, third party health companies, and testing/vaccine providers.

Ticketmaster’s plan is leap forward from proposed ideas by Wynn Resorts, which is planning an onsite testing lab in Las Vegas where ticket-holders for events on its property could get a rapid test prior to a show. This would involve substantial data sharing, something that Ticketmaster has already developed a reputation for embracing, particularly when forcing consumers to use mobile-only technology. Such technology is embedded in its “SmartEvent” system, which attempts to rebrand anti-resale technology as part of a suite of tools venues can use to reopen while the pandemic continues.

At this point, the Food and Drug Administration has not approved any companies to handle a real-time vaccination result system such as this would require. But Ticketmaster’s Mark Yovich told Billboard his company is banking on such an ecosystem developing quickly as the nation and world look to get back to “normal” while continuing to battle the coronavirus.

“We’re already seeing many third-party health care providers prepare to handle the vetting — whether that is getting a vaccine, taking a test, or other methods of review and approval – which could then be linked via a digital ticket so everyone entering the event is verified,” Yovich says. “Ticketmaster’s goal is to provide enough flexibility and options that venues and fans have multiple paths to return to events, and is working to create integrations to our API and leading digital ticketing technology as we will look to tap into the top solutions based on what’s green-lit by officials and desired by clients.”

The article discussing the tech does not delve into the numerous questions of privacy and access that come with such a proposed system. For example: What happens if a customer purchases tickets for an event, then has a positive COVID test that prevents them from attending the day of the show? Will Ticketmaster and event promoters be required to refund that customer in full? Will resale and transfer be enabled for all consumers, or will the company use the SafeTix system to lock them in once a purchase is made? Will Ticketmaster be subject to massive HIPAA violation fines (which can range from $100-50,000 per individual violation) should it suffer a data breach like its UK division saw in recent years.

TICKET NEWS - Live Event Stocks Soar After Positive COVID Vaccine News

Warning! This presale was published over a year ago and it may or may not work with current events. Please search for a more recent presale by clicking the performer or event name here: 11-12-20, 11-13-20, covid, Ticket news

The path back to full-scale live events across the globe got a big boost Monday from Pfizer. The pharmaceutical giant announced that early results from its coronavirus vaccine trial suggested that it is robustly effective in preventing the COVID-19 disease. It hopes to receive emergency authorization for the two-dose vaccine by the end of November and begin distributing worldwide.

“This is a historical moment,” Kathryin Jansen, a senior VP and head of research at Pfizer told reporters. “This was a devastating situation, a pandemic, and we have embarked on a path and a goal that nobody ever has achieved – to come up with a vaccine within a year.”

The news sent live event company stocks soaring Monday on the news. Live Nation (NYSE: LYV) opened the day at $67.40, more than $10 higher than its close of $56.06 Friday afternoon. It is the first the entertainment giant’s stock has gone higher than $60 since early March, which saw it tumble precipitously as the pandemic caused its entire industry to grind to a halt. Eventbrite (NYSE: EB) was similarly buoyed by the news, shooting up by some 30 percent Monday morning. MGM Resorts International (NYSE: MGM) is up over 16 percent as well.

The Pfizer vaccine is one of eleven in late-stage trials as part of a global effort to rapidly develop an effective vaccine against the virus which has caused more than 200,000 deaths in 2020 in the United States alone. It should be noted that the results of the testing were not published in a peer-reviewed journal, but rather by the pharmaceutical company itself in a news release.

While scientists urged caution to assume the preliminary data would prove out in full, the early returns were very promising. “This is really a spectacular number, said Yale immunologist Akiko Iwasaki. “I wasn’t expecting it to be this high. I was preparing myself for something like 55 percent.”

Even if the vaccine is as effective as early hopes suggest, it will be some time before it is rolled out to a substantial portion of the population. Should it be approved, the Pfizer vaccine will see between 15-20 million doses produced before the end of 2020, which would be a fraction of the U.S. population, even if it is distributed exclusively domestically (which is unlikely).

Such a rollout would likely continue throughout 2021, which is enough to provide hope for a much more meaningful return of live events between social distancing and venue safety enhancements and an increasingly inoculated populace as the year goes on.

TICKET NEWS - Michigan House votes to repeal ban on ticket scalping

LANSING, Mich. — The Michigan House on Tuesday voted to lift the state's rarely enforced ban on ticket scalping, bringing the long-proposed bill closer to the governor's desk.

The legislation would end a prohibition on the resale of tickets for more than face value. Currently, the law only allows scalping if a venue permits the excess charge in writing. Violators face a misdemeanor punishable by jail and a fine.

The Senate approved a version of the measure in January and will need to OK changes made by the House. The main bill, which was passed 91-14, would also prohibit the use of “bot” software to interfere with online ticket-purchasing limits. Brokers have been able to grab hundreds of tickets in the first few seconds after they go on sale.

Supporters said the restriction would go further than a federal anti-bot law.

Also, broker sites would be banned from using domain names that are substantially similar to the name of a venue or event. Netchoice, a trade association of online retailers, submitted legislative testimony this month calling such domains “deceptive" because they offer more expensive seats when the official venue or promoter site has unsold seats at face value.

There would be an exception for ticket sites acting on behalf of the venue or performer.

Michigan's scalping ban has been on the books since at least 1931. Bills to repeal or change the law have been introduced every two-year session since at least 2012.

The office of the main sponsor, Republican Sen. Tom Barrett of Charlotte, said he worked on the House changes with interested parties and House Judiciary Committee Chairman Graham Filler, a DeWitt Republican. Barrett was hopeful the Senate could vote quickly, but it is up to leadership, chief of staff Ron Kendall said.
